Author Interview

Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? How old were you when you decided to pursue writing professionally?

When I was 8, I began writing a story, first in my head, and later in my diary. The world I dreamed about was big and complex; filled with interesting creatures. When I turned 40, I tried to translate the story I’d lived with all those years to the page…and couldn’t. So I sought help. Romance Writers of America was the only group that said, “Come on in. We’ll help.” So, I started writing and learning and exploring the craft of writing. One day, when I’ve learned enough to write such a complicated story, I will write about the world that exists in my head.

Why do you write about Honorable Men, Brave Women, and a Healing Love?

I used to think I wrote about strong men and women. After all, some of the men in my stories are modeled after my husband, a former military guy, and the strongest man I know. But then I realized I write about characters that are healed by love. The characters I write about aren’t just mentally or physically strong, but brave and honorable and willing to do the right things, even if loving someone comes at a personal sacrifice.

What is your writing process?

Over the years my writing process has changed. When I first started, I plotted and plotted, making massive spreadsheets of every little detail. I knew everything I could about my characters and story before I began, but my books turned out stiff and emotionless. My process has evolved into a story structure outline, which works much better. Now, I write my first draft and focus on story structure and let my characters do what is natural. After I get the bones of the book down, I start several edit passes to deepen the emotions and add flavor to the book. Normally, before the book goes to an editor, I’ve done at least 4, maybe 5 passes of the book. After that, I work with content editor, line editor, and a proofreader to make sure I’m putting out the best book possible.

Have you won any awards for your writing?

Yes, actually. During my journey to write the best book possible, I’ve won several awards for three of my books. There is one book that has won an award that I don’t intend to publish. There are four other books also sitting in the archives of my computer. These, I call my practice books, and will remain in a folder to be looked at when I need to reflect on how far I’ve come on this writing journey.

How do you develop your characters?

Character development is the driving force in my writing process. I start with what the character fears the most, and then move onto the false belief that character has created to cope with that fear. Then I start building a growth arc to help that character resolve their fear through a healing love. After that, secondary characters are used to entice main characters to reflect, either by mirroring bad behavior or “calling out,” essentially creating a catalyst for change.

If you couldn’t read or write for a day, how would you spend your time?

I love spending time chatting with friends on Facebook or Twitter, or researching new words for my Word Wednesday posts. I also enjoy designing little notes for my quotes and sharing them on Pinterest. If my husband isn’t traveling for his job, I like spending time with him, playing with my four-legged fur babies, or exercising. Several times a year, I like to get away to explore, usually to international destinations. I enjoy experiencing new cultures, visiting museums, or studying the city architecture or landscapes. My favorite trips so far have been to Machu Picchu and Prague.

How do you come up with character names?

Don’t laugh…I usually just Google professional model names, or use an iPhone app called, Name Dice. Name selection is always hard because each character in a book needs to start with a different letter. In fact, in the book, Orphaned, I had a Rachelle and a Michelle in the book and beta readers kept getting confused so I had to change Michelle’s name to Caitlyn.

If I wanted to be a Beta Reader or one of your Advanced Readers, how do I sign up?

That’s an easy question. You sign up on the website All the information is available. I’ve created a VIP Club for those special members who provide feedback or leave reviews. In return, this special group is the first to see my covers, hear release news, and receive freebies. If readers have additional questions, they can always contact me. I am the human on the other end of that email, and will respond.

If you wrote a book about your life, what would it be called?

I love one-word titles for my books, so I would believe the book title would be, Determined. My husband always says I’m the most determined person he’s ever met.

What do you find the hardest about writing?

I think it’s the mental anguish that goes into the writing process. Each word, each sentence is a struggle to get right. Every day I push, push, push to get better, and then I get edits back or read a review and the person on the other end of the keyboard has just ripped my heart out and crushed it without even knowing how much their words hurt. Even so, I do appreciate the feedback. Feedback helps me get better. Over the years, I’ve gotten a much tougher skin, but there are days that are hard. For me, no actor, singer, artist, photographer, or anyone who is brave enough to share their creation with the world, will get a negative thought from me. I know what it takes to put myself out there. It’s hard, but there’s something in all creative types that compel artists to keep reaching for their nirvana.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given about writing, or life?

The best advice I’ve received was from my great-grandmother. She said: “Set your goals high. If you don’t, you will never know what you might have been capable of achieving.” And boy, did I set my goals high. When I first started writing my stories down, I figured it would take me two, maybe three years to write my book. Ten years later, I have my first viable project. Most writers will tell you that publishing is a marathon, not a sprint—a very accurate description.

If you could go back and change one thing about your writing journey, what would it have been?

Nothing. Each mistake I’ve learned from. I wouldn’t change a thing.

What advice do you wish someone would have given you before you started writing your first book?

Find your tribe. Find the people who will help you achieve your dream. Writing is a community effort. You need people who give you constructive feedback and help you to understand if the story in your head has translated well onto the page. You also need people who can make you laugh or pull you back from the edge of the cliff when something happens. There are so many things that can chip away at your confidence and create insecurities. Friends help provide the perspective you need to keep writing.

How would you describe your writing style?

When I was young, I used to love to write poems. I loved the struggle to find the right word that rhymed, and the beat of each line. Maybe, that’s why it takes me so long to write my novels. I still love using the English language to it’s fullest, and finding that perfect word to communicate exactly what the character is feeling. It’s what makes writing exciting, exhausting, and euphorically fun.

For fans of Kathy Reichs and Linda Fairstein, Richard Hilary Weber’s new Brooklyn Crimes short novel follows police detective Flo Ott as she crisscrosses the borough’s mean streets and lands in the crosshairs of a highly skilled assassin.

NYPD detective Flo Ott has rotten luck. First she’s put on bodyguard duty for U.S. Senator-elect Cecil King after a ultra-right-wing terror cell announces plans to assassinate him. Then she’s saddled with investigating the homicide of a hip-hop mogul. Ballz Busta was fatally rapped on his head outside his mistress’s Park Slope condo. The two jobs couldn’t be more different. Finding Busta’s killer takes Flo into the outrageous livin’ large margins of the Brooklyn music scene. Keeping Senator-elect King alive requires constant vigilance as well-trained assassins could strike anytime, anywhere. It’s only when these cases explosively collide that Flo realizes she’s finally caught a break.

What she doesn’t know is that she’s lit a fanatic’s fuse and now he has a new target: the woman cop with the nerve to try and stop his murderous schemes.

I received this book from the publisher via NETGALLEY- in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey's very honest opinion of the author's RICHARD HILARY WEBER book- FANATICS. Having never read anything that Mr Weber has written before I was unsure of what type of author he was or even how this story would even play out. Boy- was I surprised to find out that FANATICS is the most thrilling read ever. The writer
catches your attention from the very first page and hold you captive through out till to the end. Mr Weber has a creative way in his storytelling and in description of the characters and the scenes in the story. As for his plot of storyline- my goodness- it reads like it could be taken right off today' news headlines..
Our story opens up murder of a man by the name of Owen Smith. He goes by Ballz Busta. It is a wake up call to Senator -elect Cecil King. See the Double A is after him and will stop at nothing to get to him. Detective Ott and Detective Murphy are
assigned to King - they are to make sure nothing happens to him. This is gonna be a hard
task- but they will do there best. While trying to keep him safe there is another
attack on his life. Ott and Murphy are also working on solving the murder of Ballz. It is done by the Committee and they want King dead also.
Will Ott and Murphy be able to keep King alive? Who actually killed Ballz? And will the Detective's get the killers ? For all these answers and more you need to read the book.
This is a fast pace book. And it is an edge of your seat thriller. I am looking forward to reading more books written from this author. Add this book to your Goodreads reading list and MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COPY TODAY!!
I recommend this book for all readers. especially those that love a good crime
thriller. Mismousey gives this book a firm rating of 80 out of 5 stars.

For readers of Harlan Coben and Robert Crais, Robert McClure’s rollicking crime novel of family and felony takes readers on a relentless thrill ride through the L.A. underworld.

More than anything, Babe is dead set on making up for lost time with his estranged son, Leo, who just so happens to be a rising star in the LAPD.

The road to reconciliation starts with tickets to a Dodgers game. But first, Leo needs a little help settling a beef over some gambling debts owed to a local mobster. This kind of thing is child’s play for Babe–until a sudden twist in the negotiations leads to a string of corpses and a titanic power shift in gangland politics. With the sins of his father piling up and dragging him down, Leo throws himself into the investigation of a young prostitute’s murder, a case that makes him some unlikely friends—and some brutally unpredictable enemies.

Caught up in a clash of crime lords, weaving past thugs with flamethrowers who expend lives like pocket change, Babe and Leo have one last chance to face the ghosts of their past—if they want to live long enough to see their future.

I received this book through NETGALLEY  from the book PUBLISHER  ABILI. In exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey’ very honest opinion of the author- ROBERT MCCLURE’S – DEADLY LULLABY

Mismouey has never read any books that Mr. Mcclure has written before. But I do love a good crime thriller. And boy did this one sound like it!. The way in which the author wrote the bio for the book-he had me hooked. And I do mean it – picture it a mouse going for cheese (hehe).
The way in which he takes pen to paper to create such a DRAMATIC -COMPELLING- EDGE OF YOUR SEAT/PAGE TURNER! Is truly GENIUS!  From the very first page -he hold you captive. You have this DESIRE-NEED-WANT -CRAVING to keep reading till the end. As you HAVE to know what happens next. You will find yourself being pulled into the book deeper and  deeper till the end.

DEADLY LULLABY  is about a LAPD Police Detective by the name of Leo Crucci. He goes by the name of Crooch. As our  story opens Crooch just found out his father is now out from the pen- Babe. Babe has done 7 years for a crime.   He still has connections with his mobster friends.  Even though he wants to get out of the business. As for his son Crooch – he has a gambling problem.

Babe gets asked to do a job and bring his son Crooch and Chief along to help him out with it. They are to take out Mackey. Which Babe does not tell his son about – he lets him think he wants get Mackey to help him out. So they go to Mackey place for a convo. Instead when they are alone Babe breaks his neck. Crooch is a witness to the murder. Now he is on the payroll for Joe Sacci. Well actually for his father- but Sacci ordered the hit.

Mackey goes missing along with his crew. His niece  (Levitch) is looking for him for him -Mackey. she goes to The Venetian Social Club looking to collect the money Crooch owes along with info on where her uncle is. It doesn’t work – as he get’s the best of her and Latzo. Later when Crooch was off duty he got a call from his commander called him. Told him that he was needed at a scene of a dead body. All other available men where downtown on a scene on a torch job.

Crooch didn’t think nothing of it. He wasn’t expecting to be on duty as it was his off day. o he had a few drinks. Crooch drives to the scene- he finds a young  Asian girl probably Cambodian dead. She had been strangled. Her age is approximately 18 or 19. There is no ID on her and no one knows who she is. The caller stated that a big black dude had taken off from inside the bushes and ran like crazy  towards  Wilshire. With a purse in his hand. All the officers on the scene with him are out chasing down the suspect and asking if anyone saw anything.

They catch the suspect -his name is Taquan Oliver. Crooch interviews him- and Oliver is throwing off classic signs that he killed her. Oliver gives his statement but he also states he was stoned . He says he say a short fat guy with her. But Crooch doesn’t believe him.

Oliver is placed in jail- he has 2 other bunkies in his cell. During the night he hangs himself. No one saw anything – and the guards on duty didn’t think he was a risk for suicide. Hmm sounds fishy to me ….

Now as for our victim- we learn her name. She is Sonita Khemra- she has been living with her uncle Khang Nhou as her mother Phath Khemra could not control her. She thought that her brother could. He owns KN Imports it is also rumored that he is into drugs.

While our Detective is trying to solve the murder of Sonita- he is also doing his best to stay away from his father Babe. Not only that but Crooch and his father have issue between themselves.  Does that work out for him? what actually happens with Sonita’s case? Who did murder her? Will Crooch be able to stay away from Babe and the mobsters? Does he keep his job?  Are father and son able to finally let the past rest and start picking up the pieces?

For all these answers and more to this FANTASTIC THRILLER . GET YOUR COPY TODAY !

I recommend this AMAZING TERRIFIC READ to ALL especially those that LOVE CRIME AND THRILLERS . Mismousey gives this a firm rating of 80 out of 5 stars. No memory, half-dead and 100% in your face…

Top Company scientist, Chen Jelinek, has committed suicide. Vatic, a half-alive empath with no memory of who or what he is, will die in six-hours if he can’t find out why-or so the Company tells him-an ‘added incentive to get the job done’.

Our hero soon discovers he is one of the Skilled, a genetically enhanced human revered and despised in equal measure-a bloodhound with a terrifying past who’ll stop at nothing in his pursuit of truth.

He is unceremoniously dumped at the Company’s most prestigious labs, where he meets the ‘best-of-the-best’—scientists at the pinnacle of their profession—and the pompous and annoying Facility Director, Anton Frederix.

Vatic is not welcomed with open arms—the over-indulged base experts try to hinder his investigation rather than give him the help he requires. But Vatic is not the type to give up easily, especially when his life depends on it.

And just what is the mystery surrounding the black flowers found in the vast hydroponics domes, the alien mould cultivated by the lab’s Director, and the base-wide system failure threatening everyone’s lives? If Vatic knows one thing, it’s that he’s the guy to solve this, no matter how complicated or messed up it may be.

With time running out, Vatic must use all of his genetically modified wits to survive. And ‘the Skilled always get their guy’… don’t they?

I received an ARC from the author KEV HERITAGE in exchange for an honest opinion . This is Mismousey very honest opinion of his book VATIC.

What can I say about this amazing  -talented-and very creative author. He has such a way with his writing of sci-fi. Mr Heritage writing is like Gene Roddenberry. He takes you to places beyond where you have ever gone before.

Our story opens as Vatic is being awaken from a deep sleep. He is being treated by a medic. The company now needs him – he has a special skill . Although he does not remember hi s skill The medic is injecting him with medicine that is suppose to bring back all his memories.

The company wants him to find out who killed the scientist Chen So they send him to Karst to investigate it-or so he thinks. But before he leaves -Vatic finds out that he has only 6 hours to solve the murder or he will die. as they injected him with a poison. If he can solve it then they will scrub his system of it.

Vatic arrives at the center- and is greeted by a boy named Bill He takes him to the director.   At which time the director decides to give Vatic a hard time about Chen death . Vatic tells him that he works for the company and he is now in charge.

During the investigation Vatic is met with one issue after another. He comes to think that maybe he is not there to solve the death of Chen.

What actually happened to  Chen? And why is Vatic there? Does Vatic solve the problem in time to save himself?

This story has so many twist and turns it is a MUST READ!! It held me hostage-I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. Mr. Heritage has written such a captivating story it has you on the edge of your seat-edge of the page. I recommend this book to everyone! Especially to those that love Sci-fi and fantasy.  Mismousey gives it a firm rating of 80 out of 5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey’s very honest opinion of ” THE REMBRANDT RIPPER”. I was honored to have been asked to read an review this murder mystery . The author is very new to me. As this is the very first time which I have read any of her writing. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.

Ms. Lecrow’s writing style is similar to that of Stephen King and James Patterson together. They each write amazing and so does she.  The way in which she is able to describe the crime scene in detail-and the victim. How they are laid out in such a away that is not imaginable. Yet, she has been able to it- and you the reader are able to picture it right before your eyes.

The story is one of mystery and suspense. It has you on the edge of  your seat. As you open the book, and start reading. You are held captive and are compelled to finish the book not putting it down till it finished. You are mesmerized with her storytelling and the characters she has placed before you. The plot of the story- cover- characters & scenes are all amazing. Ms. Lecrow has done an excellent job with each of these.

The Rembrandt Ripper is for adults only’s. It has is not suitable for those readers under the age of 18. However, if you love a good mystery. This is the book for you. Now let the mouse tell you some of this very interesting & edge of your seat murder mystery. areas

Now you also have to realize that while they are working on there relationship with each. We have this horrible murder our there in the public. He is leaving dead bodies (females) -hookers in secluded areas. The Ripper leaves these women in a pose – he thinks they look like a lovely picture. The police think he well he has butchered them.

The 2 detectives have not been able to find anything to trace it to the killer. It has now been 2 years- they are taken off the case. The killer doesn’t like this -on no he doesn’t. He decides to get even with the department. He writes a letter to the paper and tells the police department that for every day that they are kept off the case. He will kill one more couple. And to prove his point- they are to go to the park they will find the first couple. The mayor and the chief of police put them back on the case.

Now this story has so many twist and turns- So much happens – You never know what to expect next. It keeps you on your toes!! What happens between Levi-Kane & Kissney?? Do they catch the Ripper? Who is the Ripper?

I recommend this book for ADULTS ONLY over the AGE OF 18 . Due to the content of the book. Mismousey gives a rating of 50 out 5 stars. Make sure to add this one to your GOODREADS to read list. Then run and get your copy today.
